What you need to know about miscalculated 2019 MIPS payment adjustments

If you are one of the over 418,000 Medicare providers who participated in the 2017 MIPS reporting period, you may want to take a second look at your final score. CMS recently shared an important update announcing the extended deadline for clinicians, groups, and APM entities to review their performance feedback. Now you will have until October 15, 2018 at 8:00pm (EDT) to review important information which will have a direct impact on 2019 MIPS payment adjustments.

CMS announced that during a targeted review, participant organizations were given access to their MIPS final score, performance details, and 2019 MIPS payment adjustment through the Quality Payment Program website. During this review, many participants voiced concerns which led CMS to evaluate several exceptions and credits which all have an impact on the MIPS final score. During this evaluation, errors were identified in the scoring logic and solutions were applied. In making these corrections, many of the organizations saw changes to their 2017 MIPS final score and in-turn, their associated 2019 MIPS payments.

All MIPS participants are encouraged to access and review their performance feedback to ensure their score is accurate. CMS has resources available on their Quality Payment Program Resource Library and the Quality Payment Program Service Center is available by phone at 1-866-288-8292 or by email at QPP@cms.hhs.gov.
