HCIM Colleagues meet via Web Conference to Discuss Strategic Planning

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

As part of HCIM’s ongoing effort to maintain an open line of communication with its Colleagues, HCIM Colleagues met on Friday, September 17, 2010, to discuss HCIM’s current strategic plan.  The meeting was facilitated by Amy Sipe, Client Services Professional Consultant, and Gregory Merica, Director of Product Management Integration. The Online Colleague Meeting (OCM) allowed the Colleagues to review the material presented and participate in the discussions and planning.

Michael Wilson, President and CEO of HCIM, opened the meeting by talking about HCIM’s 5-year plan, including plans for strategic business developments.  With the promotion of Jeffrey Hall to EVP of Client Services, the effected changes to the HCIM organization chart and approval matrix were also reviewed and discussed.  In addition, Colleagues reviewed the current Strategic Plan, and provided updates on several key objectives.

HCIM routinely encourages Colleagues to review the quarterly financial reports, and Colleagues are sent a copy of the Strategic Financial Reserves Measurements report each month for review and comment.  During the web conference, Jeffrey Hall, EVP of Client Services, discussed HCIM’s current financial status, and indicated that HCIM has seen significant increases in net income over the last 12 months.  After the financial review, each Business Unit Director was asked to provide a list of their current action items, which highlighted each unit’s top priorities for the next 30 days.

The meeting ended with an invitation to all Colleagues to express their interest in topics for future meetings.  HCIM strongly feels that these meetings should be forward-focused and should center on items that are most important to its Colleagues.

The next face-to-face All Colleague Meeting (ACM) will be held in Concord, Calif. on November 5, 2010.

My Journey to becoming a Managed Care Consultant

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

After graduating from college, I found myself thrown into the great unknown without a clue as to what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Through an internship, I met a man who was married to the supervisor of a health network; her department had an opening for an Eligibility Analyst and I quickly made my entry into the health care world. I must admit that the Health Insurance industry found me, not the other way around.

Back in those days, doing eligibility meant that I would get printouts of members who were active that month and would sit for hours making tick marks on who was eligible and who wasn’t. I would then term those not on the list, add those who were, and make changes to those who needed updating. After a couple years of this (and rapidly diminishing eyesight), I was able to load eligibility electronically, which saved time so I could help out in other areas of the business as well.

As the claims volume grew, so did the need for a system that could process claims more efficiently. After the new claims system was purchased, I was chosen to be on the team involved in the conversion. During the kickoff meeting, I met four consultants who were hired to analyze our business process and advise the best approach to set up the new system. They knew everything about the system and were invaluable to the implementation. Those four consultants changed the course of my career, as I realized that I wanted to be a consultant so I could make a difference, too.

After over 12 years of Eligibility, Provider Maintenance and Provider Contracting, I took a leap of faith and joined HCIM as a Client Services Consultant. Now, I implement and configure claims management systems in addition to working on benefits, contracts, Providers, enrollment, fee schedules, and anything else that the client needs assistance with. Recently, a client was experiencing an abnormal amount of claims pending in the system, so I helped to determine the problem and recommended how to resolve the issue. I’m currently working on a project where the client is bringing up a new line of business.

I’ll be celebrating two years with HCIM this month and I must say that I couldn’t have found a better company to work for and I truly love what I do. I’ve found a career that challenges me and allows me to help people with the same frustrations that I used to have. I’ve come a long way and I have HCIM and those four consultants to thank for it.

07/14/2010: HCIM Announces Milestone 10th Anniversary

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – July 14, 2010 – HealthCare Information Management, Inc. (HCIM), a nationally recognized managed care information technology software and consulting services firm specializing in Business Process Automation (BPA), announces its milestone 10th anniversary today. On July 14, 2000, five managed care operations and information technology experts founded HCIM with the goal of addressing the complexities of the managed care payer industry with a combination of consulting services and automated software solutions.

Co-founder Michael E. Wilson brings a wealth of operational and industry system expertise to his role as President and CEO of HCIM. According to Wilson:

The other co-founders and I started HCIM so we could bring our hands-on operational experience to the marketplace, leveraging our collective expertise in a way that would create a win-win situation for our company, colleagues, clients, and affiliates.

Today, HCIM’s products and services are sought out in the industry and are recognized for their value, immediate results, and return on investment. Our Colleagues are experienced industry veterans that understand the daily needs and pains of our customers. Our Colleagues are the foundation upon which HCIM’s success has been built and I look forward to continuing this successful journey with them for years to come.

Co-founder Jeffrey M. Hall, SVP and Group Director of Consulting Services, came to HCIM with a strong background in reporting services and managed care core claims system consulting. Hall said:

We founded HCIM 10 years ago with the basic belief that enduring relationships are built on responsiveness, respect, and awareness of each other’s needs. 10 years later these words, incorporated into our Mission Statement, ring truer than ever. HCIM has enjoyed long, trust-built relationships with our clients and many of today’s leading payer applications. Our partners recognize the advantage of working with a company that shares their beliefs and values. In addition, our clients and payer partners continue to choose HCIM’s consultants for the value-added knowledge and experience that each consultant brings to the table.

Co-founder Thomas J. Streeter, SVP and Director of Technical Development, specializes in reporting and custom application development at HCIM. Streeter recalled:

When we founded HCIM in 2000, we had simple aspirations of building a healthcare-focused consultancy and software development company. The five founders agreed that we would build a business based on integrity and providing the very best services and best-of-breed products, to benefit our healthcare payer clients. We also committed to developing long-term relationships with every one of our clients.

Our 10 years of business has demonstrated that we have been able to maintain those long-term relationships, even retaining our original clients for nine to 10 years, to date. In these past 10 years we have added to our previous healthcare payer experience, refined our consulting services, and expanded our ever-improving products. We greatly value every one of our HCIM Colleagues, fostering an environment of trust, creative thinking, and innovative solutions. I am looking forward to the next 10 years, as we continue to expand our services and product offerings to our healthcare clients.

HCIM’s Executive Team has been rounded out by Gregory K. Merica, Director of Product Integration and developer of the ScanClaims™ product suite that was acquired by HCIM in Nov. 2003. Merica said:

I am forever grateful that we at HCIM have been given the opportunity to do what we love for 10 years. We are incredibly blessed with our great clients and we wouldn’t be here 10 days without them. With so many corporations using our products and services, I feel a sense of accomplishment and am reassured that we are doing things right. I look forward to continuing to solve the ever-changing challenges that our clients face.

HCIM Colleagues meet to set Direction for Expansion of Product Expertise and Services

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

One of HCIM’s strategic goals is to “sustain an environment built on trust and integrity, which fosters creative thinking, empowered decision-making and innovative solutions.” As a modern virtual company with colleagues spread out across the country, HCIM’s Leadership Team has made it a priority to host quarterly web conferences and semi-annual face-to-face strategic planning sessions, which allow Colleagues to connect with their extended HCIM family.

HCIM’s colleague meetings generally focus on business unit and financial updates, as well as goal-setting for future opportunities. In addition, Colleague achievements such as anniversaries, certifications, and special contributions are recognized. The most important aspect of HCIM’s All Colleague Meetings is that they allow Colleagues to give valuable input and feedback on the future direction of HCIM.

HCIM’s Leadership Team and Colleagues joined together for an All Colleague Meeting web conference on Friday, June 25, 2010. After announcing that HCIM will be celebrating its 10th anniversary on July 14, HCIM’s President and CEO, Michael Wilson, opened the meeting by discussing the original vision of HCIM’s co-founders and giving a brief historical overview of how HCIM was formed, including the development of HCIM’s product line. He took the opportunity to reiterate HCIM’s primary goal, which is to build a reputation based on confidence, trust, and integrity, and he encouraged all Colleagues to be forward-thinking in their day-to-day activities.

HCIM’s Leadership Team is committed to long-term financial stability for HCIM and its Colleagues, so they take the necessary steps to maintain revenue projections and manage expenses. They also maintain open lines of communication with Colleagues regarding HCIM’s financial standing. To that end, Jeffrey Hall, SVP and Group Director of Consulting Services, provided an update on HCIM’s financial status, including a review of HCIM’s year-to-date financial statement and fiscal year 2010 budget forecast. Colleagues were encouraged to ask questions about HCIM’s financial direction.

Meeting facilitators Thomas Streeter, SVP and Director of Technical Development, and Jimmy Williams, Business Analyst, conducted a work session on HCIM’s strategic goals, relating to the expansion of product expertise and services. Colleagues were asked to provide their feedback on marketplace research and criteria for pursuing new and existing opportunities. The Colleagues’ recommendations will be implemented by the Leadership Team, and an update will be given at the next All Colleague Meeting being held via web conference in September 2010.

In response to Colleague questions about how healthcare reform will affect HCIM and the managed care industry, Michael Wilson reviewed several new initiatives, including Accountable Care Organizations, PACE, Medicare Advantage, and Mandated Benefits.

As the meeting drew to a close, it was announced that the next face-to-face All Colleague Meeting will be held in Walnut Creek, Calif. on November 5, 2010.
