Tips & Tricks: Using monthly and yearly SymKey productivity reports

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

SymKey® for EZ-CAP® versions 1.20 and later include built-in productivity reports for both Professional and Hospital claims. These reports can summarize all batches within any given historical month or year or current month or year for either all databases or specific databases. This is an excellent way to validate that you are realizing SymKey’s full processing potential.

To access the “SymKey® – Productivity Reports” window in SymKey for EZ-CAP versions 1.30 and higher, click the “Productivity Reports” link directly under the “Reports” menu on the left side of the SymKey for EZ-CAP main menu. Once the “SymKey® – Productivity Reports” window is opened, you will see three options: Month Productivity Report, Year Productivity Report, and Pend Reason Totals by Month. The “Pend Reason Totals by Month” report will be covered in a later Tips & Tricks blog entry.

For both the month and year productivity reports, a drop-down box allows the user to specify the desired report timeframe. There is also a “Database” drop-down box for specifying whether you would like to view a productivity report for either an individual database or for all EZ-CAP® databases.

The basic layout of the month and year productivity reports is similar: the month report summarizes all batches daily, by Hospital and Professional claim type; the year report summarizes all batches monthly, by Hospital and Professional claim type. Each report also subtotals by each database (as specified in the user’s selection) and provides a grand total across all databases.

Productivity reports show counts of how many claims were moved from/to various statuses, as well as how many claims ended in a pended status. They also summarize how many claims were not processed, how many were reprocessed/pended, and how many were deleted. The reports further separate claims into categories such as Completed/Denied and Claims Touched, and then displays calculations for the SymKey Completion Rate, Total Hours, and the overall Claims Per Hour.

These reports provide a useful snapshot of how many claims SymKey is touching and completing on a daily, monthly, and yearly basis. The year report can also show trends over time. For example, if the number of claims changing status is declining, or if the Not Processed claims total is increasing from month to month, then this might signal a larger configuration issue in EZ-CAP, which must be addressed. The “Pend Reason Totals by Month” productivity report is also a great indicator. A Tips & Tricks blog entry on this handy report is coming soon!

Tips & Tricks: Updating Claim Specific Data with Batch Processing

Friday, February 26th, 2010

The standard scenarios in the Professional and Hospital Claims modules are perfect for repeating the same action and values again and again over a large number of claims. For example, if you have 500 claims with Provider ABC and need to change them to Provider XYZ, this can be done very simply and very quickly. But what if you also need to apply unique Provider IDs to each of the claims? It would take 500 batches to make this change in the standard module, but SymKey’s Batch Processing module can apply a unique provider ID to each of the 500 claims in a single batch!

Reporting tools such as Crystal Reports or even a simple spreadsheet containing the changes you need can be used to create the input file that the Batch Processing module will use to perform this complex action.
